Mission:

Sweeping Our Own Porch (S.O.O.P) empowers adolescent girls to develop emotional awareness, communication skills, and confidence by teaching them how to express their needs, speak their truth, and navigate difficult conversations with courage and compassion. Through healing-centered mentorship and peer-supported environments, we interrupt generational silence and strengthen family relationships, beginning with the mother–daughter bond.

S.O.O.P

Elevating lives, Sparking Resilience,Uniting Strength and Creating Mental Wellness

Sweeping Our Own Porch (S.O.O.P.) is more than a nonprofit,  we're a movement of women reclaiming power, healing out loud, and breaking generational curses.

We are daughters, mothers, nieces, aunties, cousins, united by the mission to rise, reflect, and restore. We are trauma survivors, cycle breakers, and self-care warriors. We know the strength it takes to face your reflection and still choose growth.

At S.O.O.P., we encourage our community to own their truth, move through the mess, and take the wheel of their own healing journey. We believe every woman deserves the chance to live with intentionality, confidence, and mental clarity.

Through self-discipline, self-love, and authentic connection, we’re creating space for transformation, not perfection. Because you don’t need to have it all together to be powerful.

We are here to uplift, inspire, and lead, together.

We don’t heal by avoiding the conversation. We heal by learning how to have it.

Glenise Story,  Career Accountant

From the very beginning, Glenise Story has been a steadfast supporter of Sweeping Our Own Porch, giving not for recognition, but purely in belief of the mission and the sisterhood we are building.

Because of Glenise’s generosity, our Winter Wonderland initiative came to life. Her donation helped sponsor the distribution of over 40 warm sacks, each thoughtfully prepared with hats, gloves, scarves, and hand warmers for those in need. In addition, we were able to provide extra hand warmers at our outreach tables, ensuring warmth reached even more hands and hearts.

Her support also allowed us to show up prepared and intentional, equipped with informational pamphlets and flyers that helped us share our mission, resources, and message of mental wellness and community care.

Glenise, thank you for always thinking of us, for giving without condition, and for believing in the power of women supporting women. Your generosity strengthened our sisterhood in real, tangible ways and we are deeply grateful.

Do to contruction at Northwestern hospital, there was no ringing the bell. It was just a quit moment with self, still uplifting myself and choosing to show up for me. This is never easy but this is me realizing that nothing ever is. Its about your perspective, your foresight. No one needed to clap for me, I clapped for myself.

Introducing The First Prom Queen of Hope:

A Symbol of Resilience and Empowerment

At Sweeping Our Own Porch, we believe that every young person deserves to feel celebrated, supported, and seen. That’s why we are proud to introduce The First Prom Queen of Hope, a title given to the young lady whose prom dress donation marked a monumental moment in our organization’s journey of giving.

This special recognition isn’t just about a dress; it’s about a community coming together to lift each other up in times of need. The First Prom Queen of Hope represents the very essence of our mission: to empower, uplift, and support individuals in overcoming hardship. When life feels uncertain, sometimes all it takes is the kindness and generosity of others to make the difference. This young lady’s story is a testament to the power of giving, and how a simple act can change a life.

Through the help of supporters like you, we are able to offer more than just material assistance, we provide hope, joy, and the opportunity for young people to experience milestones like prom with confidence. But we cannot do this alone.

Your support can help us continue this important work.

By donating to Sweeping Our Own Porch, you help provide resources to individuals and families who need it most. Your contribution makes it possible for us to continue making an impact, one dress, one donation, one person at a time.

Together, we can keep making hope tangible, one story at a time. Join us in supporting the next Prom Queen of Hope and others in their journeys of resilience.

Donate today and help us keep the cycle of giving alive.

Thank you for being a part of this powerful movement. Your generosity is a beacon of hope, and it’s making a world of difference

Looking For A New Book

Love After Midnight - Sister Souljah

Sister Souljah returns to her beloved character Winter Santiaga in the captivating and heart-pounding sequel to instant #1 New York Times bestseller Life After Death.

In the video, Sister Soulja’s was asked by the Breakfast Club the Question, “As her character Wnter is realizing the problem of being addicted to the struggle and hustle, what would she (Sister Souljah) want her readers to take away from her new book( Love After Midnight), knowing alot of her readers face the same struggles that Winter is against”? She answered with explaining the poem that started her book titled “ What to remember and what to forget”.

A result of twelve years of quantitative and qualitative research, Dr. DeGruy developed her theory of Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome, publishing her findings in the book "Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome – America’s Legacy of Enduring Injury and Healing”. The book addresses the residual impacts of generations of slavery and opens up the discussion of how the black community can use the strengths we have developed in the past to heal in the present.
